Over-watered cacti become mushy and can "explode," eventually causing root rot.  Remove cactus, make a clean cut at the base above the rot and replant in dry soil.

Succulent Care

Light
Keep in bright, indirect sunlight. Succulents can get sunburned, so it is important to keep them in “bright shade.”  Succulents are very visually vocal plants. If you notice white or pale patches on your succulent they are getting sunburned … remove damaged leaves and move to an area with less hot, direct light. If the leaves start to spread out and bend towards the light they are not getting enough light … move to an area with more indirect light.

Watering
The biggest killer of succulents is over watering.  Completely soak your terrarium.  The wood test works wonders. Take a small piece of wood and stick it directly into the watered soil and pull it out. If there is dirt attached to the wood, your succulents were thoroughly watered. It is so important to allow the soil to COMPLETELY dry out before watering again.  Generally for dry homes this is about every 3-4 days. Water less in more humid homes.

Fertilizer
Mix fertilizer packet with one gallon of water.  Soak soil with the fertilizing solution as you would watering.  Fertilize once a month or once every other month during Spring only.

Cactus Care

Light
Keep in bright, direct sunlight. Many cacti produce flowers and need at least 4 hours of direct sunlight each day to do so. If cacti start to turn an off color (white or yellow instead of green) Move to a lower light area and slowly increase light exposure.
